Gaelin is a marine scientist, explorer, photographer, filmmaker & author. Her career started conducting groundbreaking research in Antarctica & continued at Duke University where she earned her Master’s Degree researching Giant Bluefin Tunas. Alarmed by the changes happening in the oceans, Gaelin founded Global Ocean Exploration Inc to share her passion for ocean exploration, marine conservation & storytelling. She is a Fellow of the Explorers Club & Royal Geographical Society & has appeared as an expert & host on many major networks, and was recently featured on the cover of Outside Magazine.

Currently, I am working on completing a film about my personal connection to sperm whales. The film explores the importance of childhood inspiration and how my first childhood memory of seeing a sperm whale in captivity inspired my curiosity for the ocean. Now, decades later, this experience and memory has led me on my current quest to reconnect with these ocean giants and to show people the beauty and intelligence of these animals. The film will be a companion to my recently published first book of photography, “Sperm Whales: The Gentle Goliaths of the Oceans” (Rizzoli 2022).
