A cross-sector lab building the coalition architecture for a 2026 reframe of the American story.
One in three Americans lives in or near poverty. The U.S. no longer ranks among the world's full democracies. The governing systems inherited from the nation's founding were never designed to serve everyone — and 250 years of structural exclusion have compounded the gap between the promise and the reality.
HATCH and PolicyLink co-curated a Democracy Impact Lab at Arcosanti, convening PolicyLink, Represent.Us, the Federal Reserve Bank, Duke University, and a cross-sector cohort of movement leaders. The lab was oriented around 2026 — the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding — as a moment to declare that we are all founders.
Outcomes
The lab produced a coalition-building blueprint and shared movement architecture for Project ALL — a cross-sector initiative to upgrade American democracy ahead of the 2026 anniversary. The convening deepened the PolicyLink-HATCH partnership that has since evolved into the Shared Futures initiative.
