The plastic crisis plays out differently depending on where you live. A coastal fishing community in Ghana faces different pressures than a landlocked river city in India or an island community in Alaska — but all of them are drowning in plastic.
HATCH prototyped a zero plastic waste model across three geographically distinct archetypes: a river community in Rajasthan, India; a coastal community in Takoradi, Ghana; and an island community in Sitka, Alaska.
Outcomes
Launched in 2021, the initiative produced three distinct zero plastic waste blueprints — one per geographic archetype — designed for adaptation and replication. The model is built to scale to major cities within eight years.
