HATCH Impact Labs — Pilot Program
A seven-week virtual innovation sprint | June–August 2020
19 projects launched, 15 continuing, an NPS of 65 — HATCH's first Virtual Impact Labs proved the model.
The summer of 2020 was one of the most turbulent moments in recent American history — a global pandemic, a racial justice uprising, and a consequential election all arriving simultaneously.
HATCH responded by launching its first Impact Labs Pilot Program: a free, seven-week virtual sprint bringing together 130 participants across 32 states and 12 countries, including 41 NextGen students. Teams worked across four focus areas — Equity, Education, Climate Action, and Mobilize the Vote — culminating in pitches to a panel including the co-founder of Siri, the CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Acumen's CIO, and the Head of Global Innovation at Steelcase.
Outcomes
19 projects launched. 15 of 19 teams continued beyond the sprint. 92% of participants reported expanded impact design skills. 94% reported feeling capable of making a meaningful difference. NPS of 65.
